It is definitely time to shake things up again. My creative juices are flowing and I’m itching to get my hands on a paintbrush.
Last year I participated in a One Room Challenge with several other bloggers. You may remember Favorite Baby’s Nautical Bedroom reveal? You can check out the progress here, here, here, here and here. This time, I’m going to give it a go on my own. A sort of self-challenge. A one room revival.
For me, the creative itch always starts out slowly… A few ideas about color. Some possibilities of moving furniture to create better use of a space. Increased storage ideas… and so on. This leads to a bit of shopping at the local big box store. Paint swatches on the wall. I might move a few things around and begin a Pinterest board. Then all of a sudden it’s like, WHAM! And I feel that need to jump in 🙂For me, the creative itch always starts out slowly then all of a sudden it's like, WHAM! Click To Tweet
Prepare yourself now. I want to give you fair warning that this space is NOT in good shape. In fact, it is down right scary. Take a deep breath…. This is how the space looks right now.
Well yes, that is random artwork piled up in the middle of the room. And you do see tools set about willy nilly amongst the pillows and empty bags. There is even some mending hanging over the desk chair and if you look closely, you can get a sneak peek of my MOG (Mother of the Groom) dress for this summer!
I know it is crazy but we seem to have collected more and more and more and even more
junk stuff in this room over the last few weeks.
This is the last untouched space in our Funny little house. And full disclosure, we did replace the windows when we first moved in so it isn’t truly untouched. The wall with the new windows was replaced with dry wall. It is still the dark dark dark, couldn’t possibly be any darker paneling on the other three walls and of course the carpet is really gross.
Remember the cool desk space from this post? You can’t even see it anymore!
There is a complete wall of Ikea cubbies in this room. They will need to be relieved of all of their books and taken down in order to begin the painting. Oh, my!
Let’s face it, this room has nowhere to go but up!
There are unlimited possibilities!
Just how I like it!
So now for the inspiration. (I love this part. :))
The only things I love in this room are these beautiful industrial spools. They came out of an old factory and I installed them as window treatments a while ago. They are going to be the inspiration for this entire room. I love the rustic, chippy look of them and I also love the color palette they provide.
My goals for this “Me” room are to create space that can house a bunch of storage, a guest bed, and my office space. It needs to feel light and comfortable and also bright and creative. This space will be used to work and create but also be inviting for my guests. A tall order, I know.
To do list:
Paint all walls
Design appropriate organization for cubbies
Build Crafting table
Create organization in closets
Sew new futon cover
New flooring or new area rug
Update ceiling fan
Finish mending that’s on the desk chair 🙂
Lastly, the time frame. I’m going to give myself until July 4th to finish the project. That way, my new guest space will be available for Favorite Second Son and Favorite Navy Wife when they stop by for a visit this summer. 🙂
Thanks for joining me on this little mini-journey! Let’s begin.
