Whole30 Thanksgiving – What to Serve
I’m having a love / hate relationship with my Whole30 experience. I love love love how great I feel when I follow the plan to the T. However, I miss my wine and craft beer, I miss Big Jon’s popcorn on movie night and I miss my sweet treats. What is a girl to do?
First of all, I am one of the luckiest women on the planet. I have never made a turkey in 28 years of marriage. Big Jon does all of our holiday cooking and he likes it that way. That being said, I do get to have input in the recipes and side dishes we offer so this year I’m making super healthy choices available for us all.
Last year was the first time that we used a brine on our turkey and we loved it so I searched for a sugar-free option for this year.
Side dishes are difficult for me. I grew up on Grandma Marion’s mashed potatoes, candied sweet potatoes, corn, broccoli with yummy, cheesy sauce. But this year…
I thought about searching for a Whole30 compliant stuffing, but let’s get real. A gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free stuffing? Why bother? I’m going to let Big Jon do his regular stuffing and let everyone else partake if they choose to do so 🙂
Let’s talk salad! I found this really yummy sounding slaw and BONUS – I get to use my spiralizer! The dressing does have honey in it, but it is such a small amount and I plan to use such a small amount, I’m letting it go. Paleo – but not Whole30 compliant.
And how about some dessert? I love pumpkin pie – whipped cream and all! But this year I’m going to try something different.
Coconut Whipped Cream – YES!
I promise to let you know how it goes, but I have to say I am so excited to try all of these yummy recipes! What are you having for dinner?
